"Grace Under Pressure"

Dear readers, its the first day of the third month. I'm hoping that this month will be filled with love, happiness, and plenty of blessings for everyone.

Ever wondered how certain people manage to appear composed even when they are on the verge of losing it? Even with a lot to take in, there are those who are 'graceful' to the others. Christ responded, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they're doing," even after people had crucified him on the cross. (Luke 23:34).

Ernest Hemingway referred to this as "Grace Under Pressure". This line is frequently credited to his book The Old Man and the Sea. This is how the complete quotation reads: "Courage is grace under pressure."

It's fundamental to put the needs of others before oneself in order to demonstrate compassion even while you're experiencing difficulties of your own. Even though we were under pressure, we wore masks, avoided interactions with others, and didn't leave the house during the Covid-19 time for the sake of the others' welfare (we had our own selfish reasons though).

In the movie Frozen, Olaf, one of my favorite Disney characters, remarked, "Love is putting someone else's needs before yours." Is that not the case? When we love someone unconditionally, whether it is family or a friend, we put their needs and well-being ahead of our own. What impact will it have on them, or will they benefit from my action? are a few of the queries we keep asking ourselves.

While Olaf argues that love is putting the needs of another person before your own, Hemingway declares that courage is grace under pressure. It is essential to put the needs of others before your own in order to exhibit mercy or grace when under distress. Prioritizing others over ourselves is a requirement of both love and courage.

This prompts me to examine the link between Love and Courage. They rely on one another. One cannot act under pressure with grace without love, and one cannot put the needs of another person before their own without courage.

To Love you need to be Courageous; To be Courageous you need to Love!
